The Elm

Type: Lounge Bar

Price: $ (Under $9)

Hours: Daily, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.

This fine neighborhood drinkery is truly of the no-frills variety. But that is a good thing; one of those places that are of increasingly short supply along Colfax. The drinks are cheap and assembled by competent bartenders, and the bar opens early enough that you might rid yourself of your hangover before addressing the remainder of your day. The kitchen offers standard bar food, and a tasty fish-n-chips platter, for bargain-basement prices. A good place to drink, nosh and kick back.

The Elm is a great neighborhood bar with amazing atmosphere. The woodwork is absolutely beautiful and the accents of the stain glass add to the classy but not stuffy interior. Erin took great care of us (even remembered my request for horseradish without having to be asked twice). The Pulled Pork is more Texas style cooked and then the red sauce added at the end, rather than Memphis style of being slow cooked in the sauce. Everyone seemed real happy and regular in the late afternoon. I'm glad I live in the neighborhood, as I felt like a regular immediately.
