Larimer Lounge
Type: Bar
There's a real sense of nostalgia that goes along with a venue bar that is reminiscent of the earlier punk rock days when throwing fists in the air only to smash a hole through the ceiling of your best friend's parents' basement was the norm. The Larimer Lounge is really no different, except there are people behind the bar who get paid to serve your beligerent self. And just like the days of getting stoned and playing video games in your makeshift man-cave, you can come in on Tuesdays and get hammered and try to beat Brooke (of Frontside Five) at Guitar Hero. Good luck to you my friend, good luck.
User Reviews
The Larimer Lounge is a great rock bar in the Denver area. When I'm looking for a place to check out local live music, the Larimer Lounge is always one of the first places I look. They've got a quality sound system and really help out local bands. My band, the Carnie Bums (http://www.carniebums.com) always have a great time there and never had any problems with any staff there. In addition, the Larimer Lounge gets some great touring acts to come in and play as well. Their weekend BBQs are the best deal for a full plate of music and in general it's just great for the local Denver music scene.
While I’ve been guilty of hitting happy hour here, it’s the music and the Sunday BBQ’s that keep me coming back. No I’m not talking about the charred burgers and dogs and cheap beer in cans available on the back patio—I refer to the special early shows featuring ear splitting punk rock and metal acts jamming while the sun still shines—which often leads to hanging out all night. A venue is only as good as their booking and the Larimer books some of the best in national and international touring acts alongside local hard-edged favorites.
