If you look up "dive bar" in the Urban Dictionary, you'll find a photo of Sputnik. Go ahead, we'll wait. This place is the reason the term was invented. There's no photo? Well, there ought to be. We mean, inside the front entrance there are two unplugged beauty salon hair-drying chairs where you can sit while your friend parks the car. There are even Stardust-Hotel-style droplights hanging in the window. I guess the Urban Dictionary isn't perfect -- there's no photo of Britney Spears under "has been", either.

Favorite watering hole of the Denver Kickball Coalition, emo kids and local musicians alike—Sputnik is a cosmic slice of Denver’s hipster culture on South Broadway. The retro photo booth, the space age specialty cocktails and the rotating art are big draws, but its the people watching that brings me back here again and again. Next to (and connected to) the High-Dive, it’s a great place to meet before or after a show—but be warned it can be standing room only on weekends.
