On first glance, Arvada may not seem like a center of European culture, but the city has its hidden cultural surprises. Arvada Villa, an independently owned pizza joint on West 57th, boasts a convincing Old World ambiance and a consistently satisfying menu, which offers individual servings for about $7.50. It's a combination that makes for a frequently packed house, so you may have to endure a wait. For the Italio-phile, it's worth it; in addition to the pizza staples, the Villa offers lasagna, baked ziti and ravioli, all for under $10.

Jim, the owner, is the tall guy in the kitchen. He comes out to greet the regulars. Great pizza! Spicy sausage. If you like a thicker crust, spend the extra $1. It's just the right thickness. Not like some that are like a slice of bread. Never doughy. I hate that. I can't rate the other food. We always get the pizza. I have noted the other dishes relatively higher than the pizza. Else, I would have given it Great instead of good for value. The wines by the glass are generously sized. We actually got one free refill the last time. SHHH!!! Don't tell Jim. The wait staff is always busy but friendly. Service is just on the slow side of average. Recommended!
